Now 50 of the legendary photographer's photos are available through the Monroe Gallery of Photography in Santa Fe, New Mexico through June 26, 2016. He was the quintessential Life photographer with the unfailing ability to capture the defining moment. His iconic portraits of the biggest figures of the 20th century - including Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe and Winston Churchill - along with his beautiful, poignant images of daily life made him one of the most published photojournalists in the world. Their doctors say they have mental diseases. Eisenstaedt's best-known images is a 1933 shot of Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi propaganda minister, glaring at the camera. Advancements in psychiatric medications alone have helped countless people lead fuller lives than they might have without drugs. The treatment of mental illness in all its confounding varieties and degrees has come a long, long way since the 1930s, and in most countries is now immeasurably more humane, comprehensive and discerning than the brutal approaches of even a few decades ago. But what is perhaps most unsettling about the images is how terribly familiar they look. Every professional should remain always in his heart an amateur.
